Getting Married in Gibraltar
There is a lot going for getting married in Gibraltar, most obvious is the weather. Gibraltar’s location at the Southern tip of in Spain on the Mediterranean is the key. This fabulous weather, sun pretty much guaranteed from May to September, presents that romantic English dream of an out door wedding as a reality.
An out door wedding is just what Craig & Katie did! Making the most of Gibraltar’s beautiful gardens as well as its Mediterranean location. Katie and her Bridesmaids started their wedding day at the cliff top Caleta Hotel. Many of the rooms have views over the Mediterranean ocean. Always an important moment for me as a wedding photographer, is when the father of the bride knocks on the door to collect his daughter. When a father see’s his daughter in her wedding dress it is a very personal and often emotional moment. I am very privileged to be allowed into peoples lives to witness and record these special moments therefor it is with great respect I use my camera choosing when and when not to photograph.
Following their vintage wedding theme Katie and Craig hired a vintage car for the occasion. The short drive in their wedding car around the rock brought them to the Open Air Theatre in the Alameda gardens. Run by the Government, the open air theatre is a venue tucked away in the Botanical Gardens in Gibraltar. The stage surrounded by a pond makes a stunning open air wedding venue.
Wedding Photography
After the wedding I took advantage of being in the gardens to take a few pictures of the happy couple, the we jumped into their vintage wedding car for a quick tour of the sites around the rock of Gibraltar. First stop Europa Point. Europa Point is the most southerly tip of Gibraltar, High up on the cliffs are stunning views across to Morocco. It is a fabulous place for wide open views that make wonderful backdrops for wedding photos.
From Europa point we headed north to the runway. Back in 1969 John Lennon & Yoko Ono married in Gibraltar. A local journalists grabbed a picture of the newly weds as they got back onto their plane. This shot has become iconic for fans all over the world. Clients often ask me to take them to the run way to recreate this iconic wedding photo.
Queensway Que a beautiful marina with wonderful restaurants over looking the yachts hosted their wedding reception. Taking the bride and groom off for some photographs allows the wedding planner to take the guests to the reception get them settled down with a drink ready for the the grand entrance of the new Mr & Mrs.
